Definition

Models

A descriptive and deliberate simplification of a phenomenon of interest or an aspect of a phenomenon of interest [9].

Frameworks

A shared orientation for studying, explaining, and understanding phenomena of interest through the description and identification of the universal elements underlying a phenomenon of interest [9].

Patient engagement

Meaningful and active collaboration of patients in research governance, priority setting, conduct, and knowledge translation [2].

Health services research

The study of how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, health technologies, and personal behaviours affect access to health care, the quality and cost of health care, and, ultimately, the population’s health and well-being. It includes research with the goal of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of health professionals and the health care system, through changes to practice and policy [21].
