Table 2 Processes used by citizen scientists to collect data

Role of Citizen Scientist during data collection process will be as follows.

The Citizen Scientist will:

Identify a potential participant and explain study based on study protocol

 • consent a willing participant

 • entered the participants details on his mobile app (EpiCollect) data collection tool)

 • guide consented participant on data collection with EpiCollect mobile app

 • guide the participant to capture pictures and audio records by themselves.

 • Upload data (photos and narratives) online

The project staff oversee the Citizen Scientists and support their choices of participants to ensure that they meet study eligibility criteria and are appropriate, i.e., are not just people’s relatives, spouses.
