A simple overview of the academic publishing process. There are a number of steps included in writing a manuscript and having it published. Each step in the process is described to provide some detail and context about what actions are included in the step. Each step may take several weeks or months depending on how much work is involved. This process can take several months and sometimes even more than a year. Waiting for the comments from the first review of the manuscript may take months as a start
